Adroit Theory is a nano-brewery located in Purcellville, Virginia. I love the artwork on their bottles, and they dig metal music so I’m a fan. Since I’m not a huge beer trader, I’ve found that you can get some of their beers through Tavour. So…score!
This is my first Adroit Theory beer, and they do several variants of their beers so they catalog everything with numbers. This variant is Ghost 725, so you’ll need that to look it up properly on Untappd.
Dia De Los Muertos is a Russian Imperial Stout. This particular version, Ghost 725, was bottled on 03/27/2019, and it’s bottle 917 of 3,000. As I’m writing this on May 2nd, Adroit Theory has nine variants of this beer available on tap. Wow! So, let’s pop it and see what this beer is all about.
This Russian Imperial pours inky black in the glass with a nice dark tan head that dissipates to a thin tan ring around the inside of the tulip. Aroma is slightly sweet, with notes of fig. According to the bottle, this beer is best between 58-and 62-degrees. I’ve had it open for a few minutes now so it’s really starting to warm. The aroma is slightly boozy as well.
Dia De Los Muertos is thick and full-bodied. There’s some sweetness on the front end with a ton of espresso on the back end. There’s a touch of vanilla sweetness in the middle of this beer. So many flavors on this. I’m getting dark chocolate, espresso, vanilla, roasted malt, and fig on the palate. The after taste has that familiar espresso burn. This is a helluva beer. I don’t believe there are any adjuncts in this, but AT doesn’t really say what’s in this beer, but man, is it tasty. Yes, it’s heavy, so don’t do like me and drink it all by yourself. Bad idea. 🙂
Well, I’m stoked for the next few Adroit Theory beers coming via Tavour, including a hazy NE IPA. Looks like I need to setup a trip to Virginia. Cheers!
