Our first trip to 3 Sons Brewing in Dania Beach, FL comes on the back of our two days of following around one of our favorite metal bands from Finland, Swallow the Sun. So, the day after we witnessed the show in Margate, we definitely had to hit up some local spots. 3 Sons is first on the list.
They only had ten beers on tap, but two stouts on nitro so I’m in! Baby Scoop is a Neapolitan ice cream stout so let’s get on this and see how it drinks.
Pours beautiful, dark and opaque, with that thick creamy nitro head. It leaves some nice lacing in the glass as well.
Vanilla and strawberry on the nose. I’m already digging this one. So, if you just take the glass and move it under your nose, it smells like ice cream. Now that’s impressive. As it should be, right?
On the palate, this is very much like a dry, Irish Stout with vanilla and strawberry flavors. It’s creamy but with a thin mouthfeel. It’s dry and roasty with that Neapolitan sweetness. I don’t get much chocolate on this, well, not sweet chocolate. There’s more of a dark chocolate vibe going on here as well. I’m a fan for sure. My wife had the Margarita Tropical Acres, a kettle soured Berliner “naturally tart with tropical notes treated as your favorite margarita with notes of life lemon.” It was excellent as well.
We’re only in the Ft. Lauderdale area for a short time so we can’t hang long but we will definitely be back.
Cheers!
