CLN LVN 2 by Angry Chair Brewing and Late Start Brewing

I originally had this on draft at the bottle release during Tampa Bay Beer Week at The Pour House in downtown Tampa. The release itself was kind of a cluster, but Angry Chair was nice enough to bring a bunch of sweet stouts in kegs so good fun was had by all. I didn’t get a chance to drink the OG version of this beer but I was able to pickup a bottle of this beer a couple days later at The Pour House. So, my wife and I are cracking this to see how good it really is.

Interestingly, this beer states on the label that it is brewed and bottled by Angry Chair Brewing for Late Start Brewing. Now, I didn’t realize until a couple weeks later that one of the brewers for Angry Chair is also one of the main guys for Late Start. Now it all makes sense, doesn’t it? No wonder I like Late Start stouts so much.
img_1825CLN LVN 2 pours like ink in the glass, so dark and thick, with a nice dark tan head that dissipates to a thin ring around the inside of the tulip. Swirling the beer in the glass barely reinvigorates a thin layer of carbonation before quickly vanishing.

The aroma on this beer is hard to nail down. I think it’s the pistachio, which is why it’s so hard to hammer down. It’s a savory aroma, almost nutty (hence, pistachio) with a tad of chocolate sweetness.

CLN LVN 2 is a full-bodied beer, so slick and oily in the mouth. As expected, this beer is sweet. I can honestly taste the honey on this mixed with the sweet chocolate. Oh my goodness. There’s some savory pistachio in there as well. The aftertaste lingers and packs a punch of dark chocolate mixed with honey. Wow! It’s been hard to find beers that do honey well, but this one absolutely nails it! The additives in this are simply superb. I don’t get a lot of vanilla on this, but I’m sure it’s added to the sweetness of CLN LVN 2. This beer is luscious and decadent, like eating a chocolate bar embedded with pistachios. So, far this is the best stout I’ve had from Late Start.

Weirdly, there’s no ABV designation on the bottle, but I’m sure it’s heavy and upwards of 10% or higher. Good thing I’m sharing this, or I might need a nap. Once again Late Start doesn’t disappoint. Luckily, I have two more bottles to try from Late Start, one being a mint chocolate stout, so my wife is super jacked!

Cheers!
