My wife and I walked about 10 miles in the last two days. It’s so good to be together again so we can get back on the exercise and Weight Watchers bandwagon. We both struggled when apart. We need accountability and missed that over the last four months. So, with Weight Watchers we can get Fit points for exercise. So, tonight I’m using my Fit points for this beer. 🙂
Rye Hipster Brunch Stout pours opaque coffee black with a one-finger tan head that ends in a nice khaki ring around the outside of the tulip glass.
Aroma is sweet maple with a hint of barrel on the nose. Unfortunately it’s also slightly medicinal. Odd Side describes this beer as “a delectable stout with coffee, maple syrup, and bacon with rye malt added, and then aged in Rye Whiskey barrels.”
This bottle is over a year old at this point and I don’t get any coffee on the tongue, which is unfortunate. I love a good coffee in my beer, and this one misses the mark at this point. I wonder how it drank fresh. There’s a bit of maple on the tongue, but there’s no shortage of barrel in the mouth. It has a medium-bodied mouthfeel with a boozy rye backend. This is a good stout, but it’s really sweet. I love a sweet stout, but I have to wonder how the age on this beer has affected the taste. I don’t get any bacon from this beer, but there is a ton of maple syrup. It’s a solid barrel aged stout from this brewery from Michigan.
