I previously wrote about the other Angry Chair collab with Untitled Art called Gas Station Coffee Imperial Stout and how I came to acquire these cans. After doing a bit of research, lazily, I still don’t know much about Untitled Art, but I’m seriously intrigued. I dig the artwork on these cans. So very cool and absolutely representative of what’s inside the cylinder. Now, I want to know more. They’re from Waunakee, Wisconsin, wherever the hell that is. I do like that their Facebook page (really!) says they let their beers do the talking. Now, I’m using a Chromebook, but their web site does nothing for me. It’s literally a one-page pic and their brewery name. I love it. So simple. Let the beers do the talking. I see what you did there!
Chocolate Vanilla Maple Imperial Stout (CVMIS) pours like motor oil in the glass with a thick, dark tan head that dissipated to a slight ring. Swirling the beer around the glass reinvigorated the carbonation and the head slightly but only momentarily before disappearing again. Very nice.
The aroma is actually a little weird. I expected it to be sweet, but instead it smells almost medicinal. Of course my sinuses are probably the worst (I could never be a Cicerone!) so don’t take my word for it. I don’t get as much sweetness from the aroma as I expected.
CVMIS is thick in the mouth. It’s a full-bodied beast with a ton of vanilla up front (LOVE!) and then a chocolate bomb mixed with a hint of maple syrup. I’m getting some bitter dark chocolate on the back end (ALSO LOVE!). This is diabetes in a glass. I can feel a sugar rush coming on. Holy balls this is the epitome of sweet stouts! This monster is heavy, and it’s making me sleepy.
From Untitled Art’s Facebook About page: “Bringing new beer styles to Wisconsin. In a market filled with exhausting back stories and kitschy names, we just let the beer speak for itself.” Yeah, I’d say that’s about right. And damn, does this beer speak to me!
