A couple years ago, my awesome wife and I started spending a lot of time in Florida. So much so that we have now decided to move there. During one of our quests for craft beer a couple years ago, we discovered a brewery called Funky Buddha in Oakland Park, about five miles north of Ft. Lauderdale. The first year we went down to Florida for a cruise, it seemed every beer we tried at Funky Buddha was full of vanilla, which is one of my favorite flavors. So I immediately became a fan.
I’d always heard about how good Funky Buddha’s Last Snow Coconut and Coffee Porter was but it always eluded us until this past year when a co-worker of mine went to Florida for Spring Training. He brought back a 4-pack for me and I was immediately hooked.
Last Snow is 6.4% ABV, 35 IBU porter brewed with coconut and coffee and it is fabulous. Funky Buddha knows dark beer…or at least they make what I prefer. This beer drinks like a heavy stout but at a low ABV and has a beautiful blend of coffee and coconut. It’s sweet and bitter at the same time. It’s nearly perfect. If you can find this, do yourself a favor and get it. This is an excellent beer, and they now brew it twice a year, which makes me happy.
Funky Buddha also makes an imperial version of Last Snow called Snowed In and several barrel aged variants that are fantastic. My ultimate BA beer is not overly boozy but has subtle notes of the barrel and still retains most of the original taste of the core beer. Funky Buddha knows how to do this (BA Variant review coming soon!).
