Let me say I love Perennial’s stouts. These guys know what they’re doing when it comes to dark beer. In 2017, they released a coconut stout called Fantastic Voyage. It was around 8% ABV and was the closest thing to Last Snow Coconut Porter (Funky Buddha) I’ve had. This year, apparently, for some reason that I don’t understand, they changed to an 11.5% ABV stout that doesn’t taste like it has any coconut.
This year’s version has sweet lactose on on the nose with very little head and nearly no lacing. It is very similar to Abraxas. I’m not getting any coconut like last year. It has a ton of cinnamon and chocolate. The mouth feel is thick, like a pastry stout, which this beer has become. I am a little disappointed that this beer doesn’t taste like it has any coconut, but damn this beer is yummy. It’s not bad at all, it’s just not the same as last year by a long shot. To me, this is a heavier Abraxas, which is weird. I like it because who doesn’t want more Abaraxas? Right?
Anyone else had this beer this year? What did you think? Let me know.
